It made my dreams come true.*<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Seldom do I find a grocery store thing<\/em> which makes all my dreams<\/em> come true, but here we are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I went to Aldi with this vague goal of buying either a pimento cheese spread, or a queso dip. In the back of my mind, I was thinking how nice it would be if someone had invented a product that was a little bit of both<\/em>. And, like a thirsty desert mirage that seemed too good to be true<\/em>, I was suddenly staring at that exact thing<\/em>. If my life was a cartoon, the heavens would have opened above me, and chubby angels singing eerily high-pitched, wordless music would have descended all around me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Maybe<\/em> I feel the need to compensate after all the mean things<\/em> I said about Aldi\u2019s Spinach & Cheese Manicotti<\/a>.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway. I really liked this dip\/spread\/magic substance, and now I will tell you about it, so that you can like it, too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aldi\u2019s Park Street Deli Mexicali Dip is basically a cream-cheese, sour cream, and mayo spread, which features spicy salsa-like confetti and grated cheddar cheese. When refrigerated, it\u2019s almost as thick as a cheese ball, and can be used as a cracker spread. I heated mine slightly<\/em> and used it as a warm queso dip for my mini tacos. The heated consistency is soft and luscious, perfect for dipping or pouring.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I also dipped zucchini slices and cherry tomatoes (and mini tacos) in my Mexicali dip. It was all<\/em> delicious. I think this would also taste good spread on an omelet. But I didn’t do that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What makes this stuff better than a typical jarred queso is that it isn\u2019t made from frankenstein vegetable-oil rubber cheeserie (\u201ccheeserie\u201d is a word now \u2014 deal with it) and weird \u201ccreamy\u201d things that aren\u2019t really cream. The base ingredient in this<\/em> Mexicali dip is cream cheese. And sour cream. I love cream! My body thanked me for feeding it this dip. I have a polite body.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, it’s a lightly spicy taste, with a little brightness from the tomato and pepper bits. The cheesiness is about as strong as pimento cheese spread. There\u2019s a slight twang from vinegar. Plus the wonderful, tangy taste of the cream cheese and sour cream. The savory flavor is a mixture of garlic and onion powder, jalapeno, chipotle, and red peppers. Mmmmm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I could do without the added mayonnaise, though.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Nutrition Facts<\/strong> and Price<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Pretty predictable nutrition profile: each 2 tablespoon serving has 100 calories, 10 grams of fat, 1 sad<\/em> gram of protein, and no fiber. There\u2019s only 3 grams of carbohydrates per serving, of which 1 gram is sugar. Zero grams added sugars, even though sugar is an ingredient on the label? Strange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 10 ounce tub cost $3.39<\/strong> at my local Aldi, which was higher than I wanted it to be. But, fulfilling dreams comes at a price, no? Since there are 9 servings per container, that means each serving costs 38 cents.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
