Goth-level darkness. In a bottle.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s dark and luscious. Like my soul. The flavor reminds me of concord grape juice. But, with jazz hands. This is Aldi’s “Simply Nature” Organic Antioxidant Power Juice.<\/p>\n\n\n

Are the jazz hands organic?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Technically, it’s a mix of tart cherry, pomegranate, blackberry, apple, purple carrot, and cranberry juices. No grape juice!<\/em> I was pleased to see it is made from “100%” juice, with noooo added sugar. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Impressively, it is “not from concentrate” — an increasingly rare find these days. But, it is<\/em> (rather oddly) imported from Turkey. I had to google this: it turns out Turkey is a major producer of blackberries<\/a>! My jazz hands be shook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shut up and tell me what it tastes like.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I like the rich flavor without a cloyingly sugary taste. Complicated berries. It’s almost a “thick” taste. (But, nowhere near as thick as this Egyptian Fruit Cocktail<\/a>.<\/em>) It’s more “smooth” than “tart,” but with a little sassiness that makes it extra yum. It’s goth-level darkness. My white kitchen countertops are still recovering from the drippy stains. Send help.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Antioxidants, you say?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Antioxidants combat free radicals<\/a> in the body. And, according to the USDA, it’s best to consume some<\/em> antioxidants with every meal<\/a>. Cranberries, blackberries, and apples are among the highest antioxidant containing fruits<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aldi’s goth-juice contains a whopping 200% your daily value Vitamin C per serving, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, can help protect cells from damage<\/a>. (But I’m guessing a good portion of this is the added “vitamin C” in the ingredients, rather than strictly from the fruit juice itself. More about the ingredients later<\/em>.)<\/p>\n\n\n

I am addicted to cream soda. Shan’t repent.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve developed an addiction to cream sodas this summer. So, yes, I tried making cream soda from this juice. Isn’t very good. Not sweet enough, once diluted with sparkling water & cream. Not enough flavor. Bland flatness. Boo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, this can<\/em> be fixed by adding a couple spoonfuls of frozen orange juice concentrate (this is Publix brand), or a dash of maple syrup. Or both. Because you can.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n

Because you are cooler than I am, you probably already know that if you put all the “stuff” in the glass AND THEN pour the sparkling water over it, you get a nice frothy foam. I didn’t do that here. Because I didn’t know. Because I am not as cool as you are. Go away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

(This is Aldi “Belle Vie” sparkling water, BTW. Comes in a case of 12 cans for $3.99. There are a bunch<\/em> of flavored varieties, but I bought the plain.)<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
