Although this dessert is <em>technically<\/em> already baked and ready to serve, the instructions on the box indicated it should be re-baked before serving (more about that later). It&#8217;s flakier than my ex. The outer layer is crisp \u2014 but very thin and delicate \u2014 whereas the inner layers are softer and moister. In fact, this is probably the &#8220;least sweet&#8221; apple pie I&#8217;ve ever tried. The lack of overpowering sweetness allows the apple flavor to really shine. This delighted me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Did you know that apple pies were originally made without sugar? I would describe the filling as &#8220;very tangy&#8221; with a strong lemony zing. I was pleased to see real lemon puree in the ingredients, instead of just some generic &#8220;tangy&#8221; factor, like citric acid. Unlike other apple fillings where you are getting more gooey liquid than actual apples, this pie is full of perky fruit and has very little &#8220;filling&#8221; between the slices. Just a whisper. In fact, there&#8217;s <em>very little<\/em> flavor to this pie outside of the apples and lemony tartness. I <em>definitely<\/em> think it is worth the extra step to do this. I cooked mine on a baking sheet at 350 for 10 minutes. My pie came out tasting freshly baked, crisp, and flakey \u2014 instead of a flaccid, previously frozen texture. I did notice the crust became much darker along the edges, so next time I may cover the crimped edge in a protective shield of aluminum foil before baking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nutrition Facts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"704\" height=\"878\" src=\"https:\/\/snarklesauce.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Aldi-Bake-Shop_Apple-Pie_nutrition-facts.jpg\" alt=\"Nutrition Facts for Aldi Apple Pie with Cinnamon from Bake Shop.\" class=\"wp-image-1727\" srcset=\"https:\/\/snarklesauce.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Aldi-Bake-Shop_Apple-Pie_nutrition-facts.jpg 704w, https:\/\/snarklesauce.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/Aldi-Bake-Shop_Apple-Pie_nutrition-facts-241x300.jpg 241w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 704px) 100vw, 704px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There are 9 servings per pie \u2014 which is an awkward number. Never in my life have I intentionally sliced a pie into 9 pieces, but OK. Challenge accepted. Each serving has 330 calories, 18 grams of fat, 2 grams of protein, and 19 grams of sugar. I was pleased to see that only 13 grams are &#8220;added sugar.&#8221; You also get 2 grams of fiber. Yay, fiber.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ingredients in Aldi Bake Shop Apple Pie<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Well, the first ingredient is &#8220;apples,&#8221; so that&#8217;s nice:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Apples<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Enriched Flour<\/strong> (Wheat flour, Niacin, Reduced iron, Thiamine Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic acid)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Vegetable Shortening<\/strong> (Palm oil, Soybean oil)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sugar<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Water<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Modified Tapioca Starch<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dextrose<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Salt<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Food Starch-Modified<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Spices<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Sodium Propionate<\/strong> (preservative)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Potassium Sorbate<\/strong> (preservative)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Lemon Puree Blend<\/strong> (Lemon juice from concentrate, Citrus pulp cells, Lemon oil, Water)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tapioca<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Dextrin<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Do I <em>love<\/em> these ingredients? No. I am disappointed to see preservatives \u2014 especially since my pie appeared to have been frozen at some point. I don&#8217;t see why a frozen pie would require preservatives. I also don&#8217;t love the soybean oil in the vegetable shortening. I wish this was made with butter. If you actually get 9 servings, the price per serving is 67 cents.
