I have no affiliation with Fabbri nor Amazon.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What does 25 dollars of Italian candied ginger taste like?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve been ogling this candied ginger on Amazon for a couple <em>years<\/em> now, and I finally pulled the $25 trigger. I\u2019d previously purchased a <em>small<\/em> 8-ounce jar of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/AMARENA-FABBRI-Wild-Cherries-Syrup\/dp\/B079ZV759C\/ref=asc_df_B079ZV759C\/?hvadid=475909944224&amp;hvdev=c&amp;hvdvcmdl=&amp;hvlocint=&amp;hvlocphy=9011831&amp;hvnetw=g&amp;hvpone=&amp;hvpos=&amp;hvptwo=&amp;hvqmt=&amp;hvrand=12791679635000742288&amp;hvtargid=pla-1078259022954&amp;linkCode=df0&amp;psc=1&amp;tag=hyprod-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fabbri Amarena Cherries<\/a>, which were mind-blowingly delicious. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I sprung for the bigger, 21 ounce jar this time, because I\u2019m greedy, and also because I wanted the special white glass jar. The small jars are just clear glass with a shrink-wrapped white label \u2014 but the big jars are a gorgeous, opaque white glass with thick, colorful, printed designs. I was expecting it to be stringy or fibrous or tough or chewy <em>or something<\/em>. But it\u2019s almost magically soft and easy to bite and chew.* Almost suspiciously uniform in consistency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s definitely real ginger, but ginger from a magical, utopian universe. This is the ginger unicorns would eat as they prance through a pink glitter forest. The lumps are consistent in size, too, although they have a natural, biomorphic shape. This is <em>great<\/em> if you were planning to make beverages out of it. But <em>bad<\/em> if you only wanted to snack on ginger, like I did. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The syrup is thin and almost clear, but it has a strong flavor and sweetness. The jar came with recipes for a cocktail, as well as lemonade. It\u2019s the same deep color and tender, pickle-like consistency all the way through the center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The spiciness hits you immediately, but it intensifies after about a minute, and you can feel <em>the good burn<\/em> all the way down your throat. There\u2019s also a distinct orange flavor, in addition to the ginger taste. It\u2019s sweet, but not sickening. The syrup adds a tangy, almost fizzy-tart taste. I can see why this ginger is so popular.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>(Do you love spicy-sweet-tangy foods? Like some kind of spicy wishing-well. I think the origin of the \u201corange flavor\u201d must arise from the \u201cnatural flavors\u201d that have been added, because I don\u2019t see any \u201corange\u201d or even \u201ccitrus\u201d in the ingredients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>(Wanna hear my thoughts on another Fabbri product? I live in Florida, and my house is often 80-85 degrees inside. I am basically a lizard, OK?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I emailed <a href=\"https:\/\/us.fabbri1905.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fabbri<\/a> customer service to find out if they were serious about that instruction, and what would happen if I chose to refrigerate my ginger, in defiance of the label. I never heard back. I don\u2019t want to lose my $25 investment to premature spoilage. I want to eat every last morsel of this ginger. Each tablespoon has 47 calories. Ten grams of sugar per serving is perfectly reasonable for a treat. The lid <em>commands<\/em> it. As previously mentioned, the jar is gorgeous. It\u2019s made of solid white, opaque glass, with an elegant curved shape. There are fun navy blue and orange designs printed all around the sides with thick, raised ink. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, mine had some smears in the ink and some scuffs to the design. Still pretty. I will use it to store some bulk spices in my spice cabinet. The lid suggests using it as a vase, a lamp base, or a pencil holder. It\u2019s a 1.32 pound jar with 33 servings, so each serving costs 76 cents. This is made in Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dramatic Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>This candied ginger is unlike anything I&#8217;ve ever had. I love the spicy-sweet flavor, and the turmeric and citrus taste is a plus. Although not cheap, this is a delightful treat and a quality food gift or hostess gift for a foodie friend in your life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\">The End.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p>* As I ate my way through the jar, I did find 2-3 unpleasant ginger chunks. They were fibrous and not chewable. I spit them out. But the vast majority were the stuff of fairy tales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>** For the sake of science (and because Fabbri never emailed me back!) I left the jar sitting on my counter for a week, and checked on the ginger. It was fine. It didn\u2019t smell or taste like it had gone bad. Then I put the jar in my refrigerator for a few days. Also fine.
