No one likes a dessert miser!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Once upon a time, I hosted an artist critique group in my home. One of the artists brought a homemade flourless truffle torte (with a fabulous<\/em> fresh raspberry sauce). It was absolutely amazing. The stuff of dreams! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I found this Publix version later. While not the same as the homemade rendition, it’s pretty dang good<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In fact, this is the best<\/em> Publix dessert I’ve tried so far. Period-t.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Publix Greenwise Dessert<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Publix Flourless Chocolate Truffle Torte is from the Greenwise organic\/natural store brand. It’s gluten free and grain free. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me, the big draw is the surprisingly natural ingredients \u2014 rivaling a homemade product, in fact. More about those ingredients later.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The Truffle Texture<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

If you love chocolate and creamy desserts, you will probably love this. The texture is somewhat similar to the inside of a chocolate truffle. It has that velvety-buttery-smoothness. It’s dense, but melts in my mouth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no crust or bottom layer to this dessert, but it does have a slight thickening around the edges. Like a self-crust. Almost.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There’s little resemblance to typical “cake” in this dessert. It’s more custard-like. The body is thicker and firmer than a mousse, but not as solid as a cheesecake. Compared to other “truffle cakes” I’ve tried, this one is more concentrated and less “whipped.”<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

I sort of consider this truffle cake to have only one<\/em> layer. Although, after I looked at my pictures, it certainly appears there is a slightly<\/em> different layer on top. This isn’t discernable when eating it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s essentially just one<\/em> taste all the way through. Fortunately, that one taste is exceptional!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Lattice<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Garnish<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There’s a stiffer lattice garnish made from melted semi-sweet chocolate which offers a snazzy<\/em> geometric contrast to the lush softness of the cake. The crisp, hardened chocolate is the only real texture change in this dessert \u2014 otherwise, it is just the creamy-smooth truffle body.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Dessert Size<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My truffle cake looks bigger in my pictures than it is. This is a small dessert. One pound. A smol boi<\/em>. But very<\/em> concentrated and rich. The torte has a low profile \u2014 it’s just over an inch high. Mine was about 6-7 inches in diameter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thus, these are tiny slices. They’re each about 3 inches long, which is the size of a Post-It note. This is such<\/em> a rich dessert, the small slices feel appropriate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even so \u2014 for entertaining \u2014 I would opt to plate them with some sort of garnish that helps to fill the empty plate space. Otherwise, your guests will think you’re a dessert-miser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
