I have no affiliation with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aldi.us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Aldi<\/a>, and this is not a sponsored review.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">I must fulfill my moral obligations.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of my readers contacted me to recommend this Choceur Mixed Berry Chocolate Bar from Aldi. She even went out of her way to tell me to look for the &#8220;purple label.&#8221; At that point, I pretty much had a <em>moral obligation<\/em> to try one. Woe is me. Mine is a high and lonely destiny.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, for the paltry sum of $1.39, I fulfilled that destiny. Here&#8217;s what I think:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a strong, distinct berry smell when you break the bar open. Indeed, the smells are <em>almost<\/em> more tantalizing than the taste. I would describe this filling as a soft, sweet paste \u2014 like &#8220;buttery&#8221; icing. Surprisingly, it&#8217;s made with <em>real<\/em> freeze-dried strawberries and blueberries! This is <em>gentle<\/em> chocolate \u2014 not too bitter, nor too diluted. A crowd-pleaser. While the chocolate texture is smooth and creamy, there&#8217;s only a <em>thin<\/em> shell of it wrapped around the filling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I think it&#8217;s the right amount, however. While eating the candy bar, the flavors are balanced \u2014 neither overpowered by cocoa, nor berries. Just a harmony of the two. Overall, it was just a <em>tad<\/em> too sweet for me. But, I say that about most candy. Because I am a monster. You know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>(Want to try another chocolate bar from Aldi with tangy, fruity flavors? According to Harry &amp; David, there are several <a href=\"https:\/\/www.harryanddavid.com\/articles\/food-drink\/belgian-chocolate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">requirements for authentic Belgian chocolate<\/a>, including minimum cocoa content and pure cocoa butter in the ingredients. Technically, Belgian Chocolate is <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Belgian_chocolate\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">made in Belgium<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lots of Aldi&#8217;s products <em>are<\/em> imported from Europe, but the labels identify them as such. Since <em>this<\/em> label doesn&#8217;t <em>say<\/em> this candy is imported from Belgium, I&#8217;m assuming it is a domestic (USA) product. But perhaps made with imported chocolate? I would be nice to know. Pro-tip: if you don&#8217;t see the flavor you want at your register, hop on over to the <em>next<\/em> register and snoop around \u2014 my Aldi doesn&#8217;t stock <em>all <\/em>the flavors at <em>every<\/em> register. This is <em>much<\/em> more wholesome than I anticipated. Yaaaas. Thanks for giving me permission to nosh this whole thing in one sitting. There are six segments, if you&#8217;re a one-segment-per-serving kind of human. Tsk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I will add that this is a <em>petite<\/em> bar. It&#8217;s less than 2 ounces, total. Honestly, I <em>actually<\/em> like this size. It&#8217;s less of a commitment. And, less guilt, maybe. It&#8217;s a &#8220;personal-sized&#8221; chocolate bar. Zero obligation to share it with others. Ha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyway. The entire bar has 220 calories, 18 grams of fat, 3 grams of protein, and 23 grams of sugar (18 grams are &#8220;added sugars&#8221;). There&#8217;s a surprising 3 grams of fiber. You also get a whopping 20% of your daily value of iron. Popeye would approve.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Price and Servings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The entire 50 gram bar cost a frugal $1.39 at my local Aldi. The bar is divided into 6 break-off blocks, so each piece costs just 23 cents. Per ounce, it costs about 79 cents.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Shelf Life<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My bar had a &#8220;best by&#8221; date of nearly 10 months after purchase.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dramatic Conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you love berries with chocolate, this treat is for you. The flavors are bold, but not overpowering. I am thrilled by the real fruit in the filling. The price is right. I just wish the label was more transparent regarding the source of the &#8220;Belgian Chocolate.&#8221; Regardless, I look forward to trying the other flavor options for Aldi&#8217;s Choceur chocolate brand.
