Aldi Organic Antioxidant Power Juice Review

A hand holding a bottle of Aldi Antioxidant Power Organic Juice from Simply Nature brand.

Author’s note: I have noooo affiliation with Aldi, and this is not a sponsored review.

Goth-level darkness. In a bottle.

It’s dark and luscious. Like my soul. The flavor reminds me of concord grape juice. But, with jazz hands. This is Aldi’s “Simply Nature” Organic Antioxidant Power Juice.

Are the jazz hands organic?

Technically, it’s a mix of tart cherry, pomegranate, blackberry, apple, purple carrot, and cranberry juices. No grape juice! I was pleased to see it is made from “100%” juice, with noooo added sugar.

Impressively, it is “not from concentrate” — an increasingly rare find these days. But, it is (rather oddly) imported from Turkey. I had to google this: it turns out Turkey is a major producer of blackberries! My jazz hands be shook.

(Can’t get enough Pomegranate? Check out my review of this Organic Pomegranate Italian Soda from Sprouts.)

Shut up and tell me what it tastes like.

I like the rich flavor without a cloyingly sugary taste. Complicated berries. It’s almost a “thick” taste. (But, nowhere near as thick as this Egyptian Fruit Cocktail.) It’s more “smooth” than “tart,” but with a little sassiness that makes it extra yum. It’s goth-level darkness. My white kitchen countertops are still recovering from the drippy stains. Send help.

Antioxidants, you say?

Antioxidants combat free radicals in the body. And, according to the USDA, it’s best to consume some antioxidants with every meal. Cranberries, blackberries, and apples are among the highest antioxidant containing fruits.

Aldi’s goth-juice contains a whopping 200% your daily value Vitamin C per serving, which, according to the Mayo Clinic, can help protect cells from damage. (But I’m guessing a good portion of this is the added “vitamin C” in the ingredients, rather than strictly from the fruit juice itself. More about the ingredients later.)

I am addicted to cream soda. Shan’t repent.

You’ve probably noticed that I’ve developed an addiction to cream sodas this summer. So, yes, I tried making cream soda from this juice. Isn’t very good. Not sweet enough, once diluted with sparkling water & cream. Not enough flavor. Bland flatness. Boo.

However, this can be fixed by adding a couple spoonfuls of frozen orange juice concentrate (this is Publix brand), or a dash of maple syrup. Or both. Because you can.

Because you are cooler than I am, you probably already know that if you put all the “stuff” in the glass AND THEN pour the sparkling water over it, you get a nice frothy foam. I didn’t do that here. Because I didn’t know. Because I am not as cool as you are. Go away.

(This is Aldi “Belle Vie” sparkling water, BTW. Comes in a case of 12 cans for $3.99. There are a bunch of flavored varieties, but I bought the plain.)

Nutrition Facts and Ingredients from the label on a bottle of Aldi's Simply Nature Organic Antioxidant Power Juice.

Nutrition Facts

A serving is 8 ounces and contains 140 calories. You get 0 grams fat and 1 gram protein. There are 34 grams total carbohydrates, of which 31 grams are sugars (0 grams “added sugar”). You also get 0% each your daily value sodium and cholesterol. Ten percent your daily value potassium. And the aforementioned 200% your daily value vitamin C.

Price and Servings

A 33.8 ounce bottle is supposed to contain 4 servings. But I got at least twice that many. In fact, I’ve been nursing this bottle for more than a week now. It’s rich stuff.

Anyway. The 1-liter glass bottle costs $3.99 at my local Aldi. If you got the prescribed 4 servings, each serving would cost about $1.

Shelf Life

This is a canned, shelf-stable product. Not refrigerated. The “best by” date on mine allowed about 1.5 years to consume, unopened. Once opened, it needs to be refrigerated and consumed within 7 days “for best taste.”

Dramatic Conclusion

A hand-drawn-diagram of an "Awesome-o-Meter," measuring from "Never Again" to "Speechless." The arrow is pointing to "Yaaas."

If you love rich berry flavors (and wanna embrace the dark side), this juice is for you. If you need to guzzle a boatload of vitamin C, this juice is also for you. If you have white countertops, errr, maybe give it some careful thought.

The Awesome-o-Meter rates this a “Yaaas.” Because it doesn’t have to clean any countertops. Tsk.

The End.
